How to Fix a Fuel Filler Cap That Won't Open on a Mercedes A-Class W176

Model: Mercedes Classe A W176 - Years 2012-2018

When this problem occurs, in 99% of cases, the small plastic pin that connects the release lever (the one near the driver's seat) to the cap opening system has broken. This pin is located behind the inner cover of the trunk. So if you run out of gas and need to refuel, enter the trunk, remove the carpet cover on the side of the tank; you should see a round plastic cover; open it using a screwdriver. Inside, you will find the cap mechanism, which can be a lever or an emergency pull cord, often yellow. Pull that lever or cord towards the rear of the car. This will unlock the cap, and you can refuel. Leave everything open! Remember to have the permanent repair done.
