To replace the timing chain on a Mercedes C-Class, remove the front engine cover by loosening the appropriate bolts. Before accessing it, you must remove other obstructing parts by disconnecting the connectors and loosening the mounting screws. Once the chain is visible, loosen the pin that secures the tensioner and remove it. By also loosening the nuts that secure the center pins of the pulleys, you can loosen them and then slide the chain off. At this point, the part can be replaced, and all previously removed parts can be reinstalled.
