This guide shows how to remove the manual shift knob of the Mercedes Benz A-Class A180 (W169). The operation is very simple and does not require special tools to complete. First, lift the lower edge of the shift boot using a plastic trim tool or a flathead screwdriver. Once the trim cone is lifted, you need to unscrew a small plastic retaining ring located under the shift knob. Grasp the knob and the trim fabric firmly, and apply force to pull the piece off its seat. To install the new shift knob, position it and apply enough force to lock it in place.
