Where to Find the Legal VIN on the Mercedes C220

Knowing the location of the legal Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) is useful, because if the police stop you and want to cross-check the VIN with the number on your registration document, you need to be able to indicate where the stamped number is located. In fact, the VIN is not the one listed on the tag on the driver's side. That is just a courtesy number used by dealerships to move vehicles when they don't have a plate. For the Mercedes C220, the VIN is stamped in front of the rear seat, on the passenger side, in a cut made in the carpet, under the floor mat.
