How to Replace Engine Oil and Filter on Mercedes A-Class

Before replacing the engine oil, warm up the engine; the coolant should be at least 176 degrees Fahrenheit. The first step is to lift the vehicle using a lift or a hydraulic jack on the passenger side and place safety stands. To perform the oil change, remove the engine cover and unscrew the cap on the oil filter. Remove the oil filler cap. Raise the vehicle again with the lift. Remove the lower cover of the engine compartment. Be cautious as the oil is hot, so always use protective gear. Position a container for the used oil under the engine; unscrew the oil drain plug with a wrench and wait for all the oil to drain into the container. Clean any debris that has formed on the drain plug. Once all the oil has drained into the container, replace the plug without overtightening it to 22 lb-ft; remove the oil filter cap and clean any debris that has formed there as well; now replace the oil filter gasket. Lower the car and refill the engine oil with 5.5 quarts (use only approved oil). Now replace the filter and reassemble all parts in reverse order.
