The oil filter on a Mercedes A-Class vehicle is located under the hood, specifically right behind the engine, covered by a protective housing. The warning light comes on when it is necessary to top off the fluid in the reservoir or when it is time to replace the filter.

To perform the oil change, open the cap of the reservoir and let the oil drain from the oil pan. To remove the filter, loosen the nut that secures the filter housing and then take out the worn filter from inside. Clean the filter housing before installing the new filter.
