How to Replace the Alternator on a Mini Cooper R56
Model: Mini Mini
R57, R55, R56
- Years 2007-2014
In this video, you will see how to change the alternator on a Mini Cooper R56 with N14/N18 engine, located in a difficult position, near the turbo and radiator, without having to dismantle the entire engine. You can find the new alternator, for example, on Audo-doc.it with code 4G0363 at a price of £119.43 + £9.95 shipping. Disconnect the battery, lift the car, and remove the front right wheel; remove the splash guard cover, then take out the front right headlamp by removing the three bolts and disconnecting the electrical connector; if necessary for more space, you can also remove the front grille. Disconnect the turbo air pipe, loosen the clips, and move the turbo to free up space. You will need to remove the timing belt by loosening the tensioner with a 16mm socket, then disconnect the electrical cables of the alternator, the fixing bolts, and remove the component. Install the new alternator, reconnect the electrical cables, refit the belt, the turbo air pipe, and the headlamp, ensuring all connectors are securely fastened, and finally reconnect the battery. As a final test, start the car and check with a multimeter that the alternator is charging correctly.
