The distribution system of the Ford 2.4 TDCi H9FA engine is driven by a double-row chain that connects four sprockets: crankshaft (lower), oil pump (offset below), camshaft (upper), and high-pressure diesel pump. The chain is guided by a fixed upper guide and tensioned by a lateral hydraulic tensioner. The synchronization requires the alignment of references on the crankshaft, camshaft, and oil pump before releasing the tensioner: the offset oil pump requires attention during installation: it often has a one-way alignment key; the hydraulic tensioner must be installed locked and unlocked only after checking all references. The guides, especially the fixed upper one, should be replaced if worn.
