When changing the battery on a Mini or BMW, you must inform the engine control unit, which manages the alternator based on the age and condition of the battery. If this is not reset, the alternator will continue to charge the new battery as if it were the old one, causing overcharging or undercharging, and in any case, damaging it. In these cases, an OBD2 tool is used to read the engine control unit: look for the "battery replacement" function and from there select "register a new battery". The battery must have the same capacity in Amperes and be of the same type (AGM or EFB). Confirm, and the scanner sends the command. In a few seconds, the operation is complete. Now the system has relearned the commands.
