Here's how to perform this operation. Connect the positive terminal of the charger to the positive terminal of the battery you intend to change, then connect the negative terminal to ground, plug the charger into the mains, and remove the battery, taking care not to disconnect the terminal.

Fit the new battery in its place, reconnect the positive terminal, and check if everything is in order.
