How to test the alternator of an Opel/Vauxhall Corsa D

In this video, we will see how to test the alternator of an Opel/Vauxhall Corsa D: you will need to get a digital multimeter, setting it to the 20 V DC scale. Connect the test leads to the battery terminals: below 11.9 volts, the battery is discharged. To check if the alternator is producing current, the car must be in neutral with the engine running, with the multimeter still connected to the battery terminals. If the value is between 13.8/14.8 volts, the alternator is working. Below 13.8 volts, the alternator is not charging enough; above 15 volts, the alternator is overcharging. This is a very dangerous condition that can damage the battery and electrical system. We can perform a test under load, with the engine running and the multimeter connected, turn on the main electrical loads: high beams, air conditioning at maximum speed, rear defroster, radio. The voltage should remain steadily above 13 volts, otherwise the alternator is weak.
