How does the immobilizer of the Opel work and why does it break down?

Let's see how the Opel immobilizer works, which is composed of three parts: the key, the lock cylinder coil, and the engine control unit. The process goes like this: we insert the key, the coil interrogates the key which responds with its unique code, the ECU compares the code with its database (usually containing 5 codes): If the code matches, the ECU unlocks the fuel injection and ignition and the engine starts, otherwise it locks everything. Why does the system malfunction? The transponder chip may be damaged; the remote control battery is low, the key needs to be reprogrammed. There may also be damage to the reader coil; perhaps the reading ring has broken wires, or the component is failing (starting to have intermittent problems); or the CAN line may prevent the exchange of codes; the car battery is low or weak; rarely (but it can happen) the problem is a faulty ECU.
