How do you change the leather gaiter while reusing the original knob on the gearbox of an Opel Insignia MK1? Remove the gaiter and knob by leveraging the clips on the outer sides of the frame, then pull the knob upwards with force; everything will come off in one go. Remove the retaining ring that connects the knob to the gaiter from the inside.

Using a plastic spatula, detach the leather part of the gaiter from the chrome frame, then separate the chrome frame from its black base.

You can find the leather gaiter on eBay with the code 303934843512 for £32.99 plus £13.00 delivery. Glue the leather onto the black base and allow it to dry thoroughly before reattaching the chrome frame.

Refit the chrome frame. From the inside, reattach the o-ring to connect the knob to the gaiter, and then reassemble everything onto the shaft.
