In this video we see the Start & Stop system that Peugeot has launched on the Peugeot 308 and 508 range, with a system that includes a reversible starter alternator, placed in place of the flywheel and that works in two modes, as a generator and as a starting device when resuming driving. In this way, the concept of the Start & Stop system is evolved with a drastic reduction in polluting emissions, establishing e-HDI engines as a reference point. The engine does not stop when the vehicle is stationary, but when driving at speeds below 20 km/h with the gearbox in neutral: this proves particularly useful in city traffic. When slowing down, the synchronous motor acts as an alternator, delivering up to 2.5 kW of power and acting as an engine brake. When starting again, it reverses its operating mode, transforming into a synchronous motor and converting the electrical energy it receives into mechanical energy that allows the rotation of the crankshaft, and therefore the re-ignition of the diesel engine.
