Let's see how to enable and disable the electric handbrake on the Renault Megane IV: it can be done both with the engine off and with the engine running. Pull up the lever marked with the "P" symbol; you will hear a slight "click" and the red handbrake warning light will turn on in the instrument panel along with the message "handbrake applied." On many models, the "auto-Hold" function is also activated, which automatically brakes when the car stops (e.g., at a traffic light) and releases it as soon as you accelerate. A green light on the dashboard indicates its activation. To deactivate it, simply press the brake pedal down with your right foot and push the lever down; alternatively, with the engine running, driver's door closed, seatbelt fastened, gear engaged, and foot on the accelerator, the brake automatically deactivates.
