How to Install a Dog Guard in the Boot of a Renault Austral

On the Renault Austral, the dog guard is typically installed between the cabin and the boot, to separate the load or the animal from the passengers. Before starting, park on level ground, engage the handbrake, and clear the boot area. Open the tailgate and position the rear seat backrest in the position you will use the car (backrest upright or any tilt, as the guard must work 'in conjunction' with the seats and pillars). Assemble the guard following the logic of the kit: there is usually a main frame and one or more telescopic rods or screw adjustments. Place the guard in the position where it will remain (just behind the rear seats or behind the headrests, depending on the model of the guard) and identify the fixing points provided by the vehicle or the kit. If the accessory uses hooks/brackets, position them where they do not interfere with seat belts, plastics, and seals; if it is a pressure system with adjustable rods, bring the guard close to the pillars and prepare the adjustments without forcing. At this point, centre the guard relative to the vehicle and proceed with locking: gradually tighten the adjustments (knobs or screws) alternating sides, so the guard remains straight and does not 'escape' to one side. If there are feet or lower supports, ensure they rest on stable surfaces and not on movable parts or coverings that may deform. The guard should be firm, with no obvious play, and should not touch the roof lining or side panels abnormally. When the fixing is complete, perform a stability test by pulling the guard firmly forward and sideways: if it moves, loosen and reposition, then retighten.
