EGR Valve Cleaning Instructions

The function of the EGR valve is to reintroduce a portion of exhaust gases back into the intake for further combustion, thereby reducing emissions. However, constant contact with exhaust gases tends to foul it, potentially clogging it and compromising its operation. Therefore, it can be effective to clean it, including the exhaust and intake manifold. In the case of the vehicle in question, the EGR valve is located at the rear of the engine. Once you are sure the engine has cooled down, remove the plastic cover and the air filter housing. Then, unscrew the fastening bolts of the valve and use a screwdriver to pry it out of its seat, taking care not to damage the metal gasket. Also, disassemble the metal pipe connecting the exhaust manifold to the valve seat and proceed to wash both with a specific cleaner. Allow the cleaner to work and remove any deposits from the intake manifold. Once cleaning is complete, reverse the steps for installation.
