Instructions for Cleaning the EGR Valve

Model: Saab 9 3 MK 2 - Years 2002-2014
Part: EGR valve

The EGR valve, being constantly in contact with exhaust gases, tends to get dirty, sometimes to the point of jamming. If it remains open, it can cause problems both during starting and in power delivery (if it stays open, exhaust gases continue to enter the intake, leading to irregular combustion). In many cases, excessive clogging can also damage the valve actuator. In the case of the vehicle in question, removing the valve is very simple as it is located at the rear of the engine, attached to the intake manifold: it is sufficient to unscrew the retaining bolts of the valve to the manifold and the flange connecting to the exhaust manifold. Once removed, it can be cleaned with a suitable cleaner. At the same time, it is advisable to clean the shut-off valve (which is shaped like a throttle body) located at the entrance of the intake manifold, as well as the respective seats on the manifold, taking care not to let any debris fall into the manifold itself.
