When the Seat Ateca does not open, the first suspect is the remote control, particularly its battery which may be flat. Take the remote and open it; it is a snap-fit, so open the casing firmly - but without excessive force.

Using a pen or a small screwdriver, remove the button cell battery, which is a common CR2032, available for a few pounds at a newsagent or supermarket. Be careful to insert it back in the correct polarity.

At this point, simply reassemble the casing, securing the clips, and you're done.
