Learn how to remove the starter motor on a Smart Fortwo. Open the boot of the car and secure it. First, use a socket wrench to disconnect the battery power cables (located in the car's cabin). Unscrew the securing bolts of the starter motor (access from underneath if necessary), disconnect the power terminals of the starter using pliers or a screwdriver depending on the pressure of the tabs. Detach the starter motor from its housing and remove it from the engine compartment. Fit the new starter motor by connecting the power cables and the associated mounting screws.
