How to Replace the Thermostat on a Smart ForTwo

Model: Smart Smart 450 - Years 1998-2007

Before starting, open the rear boot of your Smart ForTwo, then unclip and remove the engine cover. Next, drain the cooling system by unscrewing the relevant drain screw. After that, remove the alternator by unscrewing the fixing bolts, then extract it from its housing. This will give you access to the thermostat cover. Proceed by unscrewing and removing the fixing bolts, then disconnect the various hoses and the electrical connector. At this point, extract the thermostat from the engine bay, completing the disassembly. To fit the new thermostat on your Smart ForTwo, follow these steps in reverse, and the replacement will be complete.
