How to Code the Key for a Smart

In this video, we will show you how to code the key for a Smart. Once you have changed the battery in the key, it may happen that the key becomes unprogrammed.

What to do in this case? First, ensure that you have correctly installed the battery in its housing, meaning it fits snugly against the contacts. Once you have closed the plastic casing of the key, insert the key into the ignition and turn it to position 1 (i.e., turn on the ignition but do not start the engine).

Press and hold the door lock button for a few seconds. Then, press and hold the unlock button for a few seconds.

After this, remove the key from the ignition, and the key will be reprogrammed.
