How to Reset the Maintenance Light on the Smart 450

If you notice the maintenance light stays on when starting your Smart Fortwo 450 (year 1998-2007) despite having had a recent service, proceed with the following manual reset. First, enter the cabin and locate the small button at the rear of the dashboard. Press and hold it while simultaneously turning on the instrument cluster. Then, turn it off and back on again. Release the button and press it twice in quick succession. Once the light disappears from the display, turn off the cluster and you are done.
