Once the vehicle is on the lift, remove the rear wheel and then the drum: use a pin as a puller. At this point, immediately check for any oil leaks from the wheel cylinder of the shoes; then assess the thickness of the friction material on the shoe support: it should have a uniform minimum thickness across the entire shoe and must not show grooves or scratches; the inside of the drum should also be smooth and uniform. In any case, it is advisable to sand both the drum and the shoes with fine-grit sandpaper before reassembling.
