How Car Air Conditioning Works

The operation of air conditioning relies on the phase change from liquid to gas that occurs within the conditioning system. The system consists of a compressor that compresses the gas to the point of turning it into a liquid, and due to this compression, the liquid tends to heat up, so it passes through a first radiator (condenser) cooled by a fan. The liquid then goes through a filter that removes any condensation before reaching the expansion valve: it is the expansion that allows the pressurised liquid to turn into gas, and during this phase change, the temperature drops significantly. The cold gas passes into the internal radiator (evaporator), cooling the surrounding air, which is then channeled into the cabin through the internal fan.
