Why Do We Hear the Belt Slipping?

The main causes of a slipping belt are several: one is stiff or seized pulleys that no longer rotate freely. A belt rubbing against a stuck pulley slips and makes noise. Another reason is a worn belt: over time and heat, the rubber hardens and cracks, as shown in the video, making it stiff and losing grip on the pulleys, thus slipping. Centrifugal force causes it to widen, resulting in poor adherence. Another issue is a weak belt: the automatic tensioner should maintain constant tension on the belt. However, if it has weakened or the bearing is seized, the belt remains slack and slips. All these problems are more evident in winter due to the cold, especially if the belt is old; additionally, the automatic tensioner may be less effective at low temperatures.
