How to Top Up the Antifreeze

Checking the level and topping up the antifreeze is a task that should be performed periodically on all cars, especially older and high-mileage ones. Inside the engine bay, there is usually an expansion tank suitable for checking and topping up the antifreeze, characterised by markings on the side indicating the level, usually marked as min (minimum) and max (maximum). The optimal level is roughly in the middle between the two markings, avoiding exceeding the maximum level. Once you locate the expansion tank and if a top-up is necessary, open the safety cap on the top of the tank; this operation must be done strictly when the engine is cold to avoid the risk of hot liquid spilling and potential burns. Once the cap is opened, proceed with the top-up, respecting the levels mentioned earlier. It is also recommended to mix the liquid with 50% water and to use fluids of the same type as those originally used in the car, which are usually distinguished by colour.
