In addition to protecting occupants, car manufacturers have developed systems for the external safety of the vehicle. One example is the active bonnet: when the front sensors detect a collision, the rear portion of the bonnet (closest to the windscreen) lifts up. The aim is to better absorb the impact with a pedestrian. In the event of a collision with a pedestrian, the rear of the bonnet raises in a matter of milliseconds. This creates a larger deformation zone, which better absorbs the impact energy, reducing the consequences of the accident (primarily the risk of injury to the struck pedestrian).

How to Open the Bonnet on the Lancia Y

To open the bonnet on this vehicle, follow these simple instructions: first, open the driver's door and locate the lever positioned just below the dashboard, marked with an image of the vehicle with the bonnet open. Pull this lever towards you until you hear a "click" indicating the bonnet is released. Next, exit the cabin and stand in front of the bonnet to disengage the safety catch and complete the opening.
