In this video, we see how to replace a handbrake cable: the fastening elements that connect the cables to the handbrake lever are located under the central console, which will need to be removed using plastic levers. Then, the cable tension must be loosened, and the car lifted by removing the rear wheels and supporting it on solid stands. The handbrake may be connected to rear calipers, and we will need to disconnect the cables from the cable brackets, or to the brake shoes, in which case we will need to remove the calipers, brackets, and brake discs or drums. These last two components may be difficult to remove and may require a specific tool. Take note of the position of all elements and take a photo if necessary. The springs must be removed with great care. All cables and related fastening elements must be disconnected and cleaned from the suspension components and bodywork. Now we must disconnect the cables from the handbrake control lever. The next step is to install the new cables and all previously removed components in reverse order. We will need to adjust the brake shoes, which should be positioned at a certain distance from the drum, then check the handbrake by operating it several times, and adjust the position of the shoes accordingly. The parking brake must be adjusted so that it does not interfere with the rotation of the wheels when the car is in motion.
