If your car does not accelerate, the problem may be with the mass air flow sensor. This device is a flow meter that measures the mass of air and is now electronic. The grids help straighten the air - literally - to allow the sensor inside to read it properly. This sensor has a heated filament (120°C). Depending on the amount of air passing through, the filament cools down, and based on how much it cools, the ECU calculates how much current is needed to maintain the temperature. The ECU performs this calculation, so if the mass air flow sensor is not functioning or is faulty, the ECU cannot make the correct calculation and if the vehicle is overtaking instead of supplying more fuel based on the request from the mass air flow sensor, it may even go into protection mode.
