There are some important things to know about the electric handbrake (or Electric Parking Brake). For example, what happens if someone inadvertently pulls the handbrake while driving? Nothing significant; the car stops or slows down, just as if the manual handbrake was pulled. Electric handbrakes are almost always automatic, meaning they deactivate when you fasten your seatbelt or activate when you open the door. Additionally, without any physical effort, it can also be operated by someone in the car who is not the driver. There are two types of electric handbrakes. The first maintains the cables, like a traditional handbrake, but they are pulled by an electric motor. The other, more sophisticated system has two electric motors on the calipers, acting directly on them. Naturally, there are also disadvantages: you cannot perform skids with the handbrake, for example.
