The EGR valve is constantly in contact with exhaust gases as its function is to reintroduce some of them into the intake for post-combustion and to reduce emissions; however, since exhaust gases are contaminated with oil vapours and unburnt diesel, the valve tends to get dirty and can become clogged; therefore, as maintenance, it is advisable to dismantle and clean it using specific cleaners; it is not recommended to use sprays injected into the intake as this may dislodge deposits and end up in the cylinders or under the valves.
