How to remove the headlight bulb of the Volkswagen Polo.

On your Volkswagen Polo, the headlight bulb is accessed from the back of the headlight assembly by working from the engine compartment. Before proceeding, turn off the car, deactivate all the lights, and allow the headlight to cool if it has just been turned on: halogen bulbs get very hot. Work with clean gloves and, if you need to handle a new bulb, avoid touching the glass bulb to prevent reducing its lifespan. Open the hood and position yourself behind the affected headlight. Locate the back of the headlight assembly and remove the cover/dust shield that protects the bulb housing: depending on the configuration, it may be a rubber cap that you can pull off by tugging it outward or a hard cover with clips. Once access is opened, reach inside the housing until you reach the bulb holder and the electrical connector. To free the bulb, first disconnect the connector: grasp the plug, press any locking tab, and pull with a straight and controlled motion, avoiding yanking the wires. At this point, unlock the bulb holder according to the type of fastening present, which is often rotational: turn it a few degrees until it releases, and then extract the bulb straight out, without bending or forcing it. If you find a retaining clip instead, carefully unhook it and keep the bulb aligned during extraction. When the bulb is out, check the orientation of the alignment notches and the position of the fitting, as proper reassembly depends on alignment. To close it up, insert the bulb back into the same position, secure the bulb holder by rotating or using the retaining clip, reconnect the connector until it clicks, and replace the cover/dust shield to prevent moisture ingress and fogging. Finally, turn on the lights and check that the headlight functions properly and that the cap is well sealed.
