To adjust the handbrake on a Volkswagen Touran, open the ashtray compartment located at the rear of the centre console: once opened, you can completely remove it by prying it out and locate the underlying bolt that allows you to adjust the handbrake. Tightening this bolt will make the handbrake lever heavier and reduce its travel; conversely, loosening the bolt will increase the travel and make the lever lighter.
