In older models of the Volkswagen Polo, it is possible to reset the service light without even entering the onboard computer menu as is done in newer models, and this can be done without a scanner through the two small buttons located under the dashboard display.

With the instrument cluster off, press and hold the button marked 'SET', then turn the key to switch on the ignition, release the button, and briefly press the adjacent button.

Finally, restart the instrument cluster to confirm the reset and check that the light has turned off.
