Volkswagen Golf - Video tutorial

Model: Volkswagen Golf MK 4, Golf IV, Golf 4 - Years 1997-2003
Part: Shock absorbers
Operation: Rear shock absorber replacement

The shock absorbers change when they no longer perform their function regardless of the mileage traveled. To replace, lift the car and secure it. Remove the wheel and place a jack or hydraulic jack under the spring holder to raise it slightly. Unscrew the two screws holding the shock absorber with a 15 spanner. If the screws are seized, use a deoxidizer spray, wait for it to take effect and apply force on the spanner. Remove the exhaust shock absorber and refit the new shock absorber checking that it is of the same type. It is advisable to replace the fixing bolts, if not, carefully clean the old ones and grease them. To tighten the bolts use a torque wrench. Carry out a road test of perfect functioning.
