Volkswagen Golf - Video tutorial

Model: Volkswagen Golf Golf 3, Golf III, MK 3 - Years 1991-1997
Part: Shock absorbers
Operation: Rear shock absorber replacement instructions

The replacement of the rear shock absorbers is quite simple to carry out since the spring and the damper are separated and therefore it is not necessary to have the appropriate clamps to move the spring from the old to the new shock absorber; but it may happen, as in the video, that the fixing pin of the shock absorber to the support of the rear bridge does not really want to come off (frequent in the case in which the car drives on snow-covered roads sprinkled with salt): it is therefore necessary to strive to be able to disassemble without doing damage; a first step is to cut the shock absorber eyelet so that it can be extracted from its seat; at this point it remains to remove the pin and you could either use the torch as shown in the video (but personally I would avoid the use of open flames near the fuel tank) or a flex with a cutting disc. We then proceed backwards to install the new shock absorbers.
