Instructions for Replacing Rear Shock Absorber

Model: Volkswagen Golf Golf IV, MK 4, Golf 4 - Years 1997-2003

To replace the rear shock absorbers (it is advisable to replace them in pairs), lift the vehicle on a lift and remove the rear wheel; place a jack under the rear suspension to support it during the shock absorber removal; then unscrew the lower fixing bolt and the two upper bolts from inside the wheel arch (there is no need to access the boot) to remove the shock absorber; then detach the upper spherical cap and remove the fixing bracket to attach it to the new shock absorber complete with bellows; proceed in reverse for installation.
