Front Shock Absorber Spring Replacement

Model: Volkswagen Golf MK 5, Golf 5, Golf V - Years 2003-2008
Part: Suspension system

Lift the vehicle on a hoist and remove the front wheel; disconnect the plastic link from the suspension wishbone, free the shock absorber from the cable guides that secure the brake fluid pipe and unscrew the pin that secures the shock absorber to the hub support collar and extract it; lower the vehicle and access the engine bay to unscrew the nut that secures the shock absorber to the body strut; at this point, apply clamps to the spring to compress it and remove the shock absorber support from the shaft; then apply the clamps to the new spring and fit it onto the shock absorber, proceeding in reverse.
