Front Shock Absorber Replacement

Model: Volkswagen Golf Golf IV, MK 4, Golf 4 - Years 1997-2003

To replace the front shock absorbers, you first need appropriate spring compressors to compress the springs and remove the shock absorber mount. Lift the vehicle onto a hydraulic lift and remove the front wheel. Then disconnect the drop link and the brake sensor cable. Remove the mounting bolts securing the shock absorber to the hub mount and extract it, possibly using a hammer. Access the engine bay to remove the nut securing the mount from the strut top. Compress the spring to remove the upper mount from the strut and slide off the dust cover. Fit the dust cover and spring onto the new shock absorber, compress the spring, and secure the mount to the strut. Reverse the steps for installation back onto the vehicle.
