Replacing Car Shock Absorbers

The following guide shows how to change the shock absorbers on your car simply and practically, without needing the help of a mechanic. Typically, shock absorbers should be replaced after about 50,000 miles. Raise the car with a jack and then remove the wheels using a cross wrench. Unscrew the bolts that will be needed to reattach the wheel later. Once free from its seat, the shock absorber can be extracted to make way for the new one, then screw in the bolts similarly to how the old ones were mounted.
