Instructions for Activating the Immobiliser

Model: Volkswagen Golf MK 5, Golf 5, Golf V - Years 2003-2008

The immobiliser is an anti-theft device present on all vehicles since 1995, allowing the vehicle to start only after recognising a code in the ignition key, which occurs via a transponder. The transponder in cars is a battery-free electronic component powered by electromagnetic induction from a magnetic field generated by a radio antenna (generally 30-500 KHz) located on the steering lock; once powered, the transponder returns a code which, recognised by the car's ECU, allows the engine to start. If you attempt to start the vehicle with another key, the glow plug warning light and the symbol of the car with the spanner will illuminate on the dashboard.
