How to Adjust the Handbrake on a Volkswagen Polo?

To adjust the handbrake on the Volkswagen Polo, use a tool to pry off the cover of the storage compartment located in front of the handbrake. Once this cover is removed, you will also need to take off the one surrounding the handbrake lever to access the underlying tensioner. This tensioner can be adjusted by tightening or loosening the corresponding bolt: tightening it will result in a shorter and firmer handbrake; conversely, loosening it will increase the handbrake's travel and make it lighter.
