Below are the steps to remove and replace the gear knob on the Volkswagen Golf, as well as on the Jetta and Bora. First, get inside the vehicle and start by removing the gaiter from the base of the gear lever using a thin lever. Next, disconnect the gaiter from the knob by unscrewing the metal clip screw, as shown in the video.

At this point, pull the knob upwards with force to remove it along with the gaiter; replace the components with new ones and reassemble everything by applying the reverse procedure!
