In this video, we can see how to determine if the regeneration of the DPF is in progress or not on the Volkswagen Golf MK7: if the regeneration is in progress, it is essential not to turn off the engine so that it can complete on its own. The first symptom we can observe is a slight increase in idle, which occurs with the engine already warm, so not due to the heating procedure; furthermore, when the regeneration is in progress, the Start & Stop system does not function, because the ECU knows that the procedure cannot be interrupted. We can confirm this by going to "car" in the menu then "vehicle status"/start&stop and we see that the engine must be on. Let's say we have reached our destination, it will be necessary to leave the engine running for a few more minutes to allow the filter to regenerate, and when it is completed, the notification regarding the inactive start & stop will disappear from the screen, and the engine revs will also decrease.
