How does DPF regeneration work?

Model: Volkswagen Golf Golf VII, MK 7, Golf 7 - Years 2012-2019

How can you tell when the DPF is undergoing regeneration? Unfortunately, there is no warning light on the dashboard to indicate this, but we have learned to recognise it by certain signs. Firstly, notice that the idle increases by about 50 RPM. Then observe that the radiator fans under the bonnet run continuously, even if the air conditioning is off or during winter. Finally, you may hear a different rumble coming from the exhaust. When you notice these signs, you know that regeneration is in progress. Try not to turn off the vehicle until the fan has stopped running. If you turn it off, you interrupt the regeneration process, and the filter must start over, risking becoming blocked. Additionally, if regenerations are frequently interrupted, the ECU performs more and injects more diesel, which ends up in the sump and dilutes the engine oil, compromising lubrication. If the DPF warning light comes on, drive on a straight road at 50-55 mph in a high gear (fifth or sixth) for about 12-15 minutes. If the light does not turn off, consult a mechanic for forced regeneration or, if necessary, to clean the filter.
