How to Test the Glow Plugs of a Diesel Engine

In this video, we can see a simple method to test the glow plugs of a diesel engine. You will need a charged battery, two cables with clamps, and a pair of gloves. Connect one cable from the negative terminal of the battery to the thread of the glow plug; connect the positive terminal to the upper terminal. A functioning glow plug will become incandescent at the lower end within 2 to 5 seconds: the heat must be visible and uniform. If it does not heat up at all, the component needs replacing; the same applies if it heats up slowly or only partially. Do not touch the glow plug when it is under tension, as it will burn! Do not keep the voltage applied for more than 10 seconds, as this risks damaging the glow plug if it is good.
