How to Prevent the Side Mirror of an Alfa Romeo 156 from Detaching When Closed

The side mirrors of the Alfa Romeo 156 are prone to detaching when closed. Modify the joint to avoid this unpleasant issue. First, remove the three screws that secure the base of the mirror. Gently lever with a spatula to remove the actual mirror; it is not necessary to disconnect the electrical connectors, just remove it from its housing. Now work on the joint by removing the screws, first the outer one, then the one inside the mirror. You will have separated the mechanism from the cover. Still on the joint, use a ratchet spanner to remove the central bolt: you will have completely disassembled the mechanism. When reassembling, place the socket under the spring, above the washer and the screw, under a large washer (which was not there before) and a bolt. Tighten the pieces. Reinsert the mechanism into the cover: first the cable, then pass the arm through, replace the two screws, and reattach the mirror. You can now reassemble the base of the mirror and put everything back in place on the vehicle. Job done.
