To allow passengers access to the rear seat, release the backrest of the front seat and slide it forward to create enough space. During the lifting of the handle, a steel cable releases the lock at the base of the seat frame; often, the handle movement may be slightly obstructed or even jammed.

This issue can be resolved simply by lubricating the mechanism, but rather than spraying grease and risking a mess, remove the plastic handle by unscrewing the fixing screw inside the frame, then apply grease to the base of the internal lever.
