Transmission Oil Change and Complete Maintenance

Use the proper equipment for this operation.
Lift the vehicle on a lift and locate the automatic transmission oil pan, then find the fill plug (located at the front) and the drain plug (located at the rear). First, loosen the fill plug and after placing a suitable container (about 2 qt) under the plug, drain some transmission oil. Through the same hole, insert the appropriate cleaning additive and reinstall the plug. Lower the vehicle from the lift and drive it to circulate the additive in the transmission.
Next, reposition the vehicle on the lift and completely drain the transmission oil through the rear plug. Unscrew the retaining bolts of the transmission oil pan and remove the pan itself: during this operation, place a container to catch the additional oil that will certainly spill out; then remove the transmission oil filter (more oil may spill out).
Carefully clean the transmission oil pan, as there will be metal shavings on the bottom (especially near the magnets).
Then, install the new filter, reinstall the cleaned pan, and fill it with the specific oil for automatic transmissions.
At this point, perform the converter cleaning by connecting the hoses to the specific machine: you will be able to see on the equipment the transition from used oil to new oil.
Once the cleaning is complete, reconnect the hoses to the vehicle and add more new oil and possibly the specific additive. Lower the vehicle from the lift, take a test drive checking for any jerking and the smoothness of the shifting, and return to the lift to check the level: when oil starts to flow out of the fill plug, the level is okay.
